Intraday Trading

Intraday trading is another name for day trading and refers to the buying and selling of stocks or shares within one trading day.  Those who practice intraday trading are usually referred to as day traders.  The great thing about intraday trading is the fact that it is a quick way to make a profit and those who are good at it can make quite a lot of money.  However, it is important to realise that because it is so fast paced, it is also very risky and many traders have fallen foul of the trades and have lost their investment.  If you are going to participate in intraday trading, you need to have nerves of steel and your wits about you.

Intraday Trading – What Is It?

When it comes to intraday trading, there are many traders who will focus on very short term trades such as trades which last only a few minutes while others will keep the trade going for as long as possible within the trading day.  Brokers tend to offer discounts for day trading so this makes it more attractive for many traders.  Traders who like to day trade can either make huge profits or huge losses because of the nature of this type of trading.  Those who don’t agree with intraday trading will often refer to day traders as gamblers or risk takers.

There are many elements which make intraday trading riskier such as chasing a losing game, not having good discipline when it comes to trading, not having the money to lose (this will make it much more stressful) and not being careful when it comes to executing the trades.  Another element of intraday trading is the fact that a lot of people buy on margin which means using borrowed money to buy shares.  This can make losses much more significant.  When it comes to margins, a lot of brokers will offer more to day traders so it means it is possible to make quite a bit of money or on the flip side, to lose quite a bit of money.

Intraday Trading – Best Practises

The best way to deal with intraday trading is to try and accumulate small profits which will add up to a larger sum.  Trying to play for large profits is risky when it comes to trading on the same day.  Successful day traders will look for stocks that have a high price move because that way they will make more money.  These will be stocks that are sensitive to daily news.

It is very important to remember that intraday trading is a risky business and if you do not know what you are doing then you are sure to lose quite a bit of money.  Being patient and having the nerves to cope with trades like these will stand you in good stead.  If you are thinking of getting involved in intraday trading then it is essential that you learn as much as you can about it beforehand.  Research your markets thoroughly so that you can be sure you are not going to end up on a losing streak.
